Smart Variations
Turn source footage into complete video ad drafts without cutting each clip by hand.
Smart Variations builds editable drafts from your project footage. Each draft combines a spoken hook and body. You can require a call to action (CTA), or allow drafts without one. You do not need to cut the clips or build a sequence first.
Create drafts
- Open Variation Builder in your project.
- Select Smart Variations, then New variations. You do not need to select a draft.
- Set the source footage filters. Check how many matching sources are ready.
- Choose 5, 10, or 20 drafts.
- Leave Test type set to All sections. Choose a Selection preference.
- Set the aspect ratio and minimum duration: 15, 30, 45, or 60 seconds.
- Open Appearance settings to set captions and animated emphasis. Turn captions off if your footage already has them.
- Select Generate up to 5 drafts, Generate up to 10 drafts, or Generate up to 20 drafts.
Sources need ready speech transcripts. Longer minimum durations can produce fewer matches. Source notes identify transcripts that are too long for the full-script quality check. Use shorter footage with a complete argument. Other ready sources remain available.
Choose a selection preference
- Balanced ranks complete scripts by script flow.
- Prefer unused hooks prefers hooks that earlier drafts did not use.
- Prefer unused bodies prefers bodies that earlier drafts did not use.
Parts can repeat when there are too few suitable matches. Scripts already proposed in the project are excluded.
Test one section
Set Test type to Change hooks. Select a Reference draft with a body and CTA. Sovran shows the sections kept fixed and tests new hooks with them. Every script must still pass the flow checks.
To test bodies, set Test type to Change bodies. Select a Reference draft with a hook and CTA. Only the body changes. Selection preferences under All sections permit all sections to change.
The reference uses the original generated sections. Later editor changes are not copied. Include the reference footage in your source filters. A missing or unavailable reference blocks generation. Choose another reference or select All sections to continue without one. Reference labels include the batch date and time.
You can also select Test new hooks or Test new bodies when you preview a saved draft. These actions fill setup with that reference. Review the settings before generation. New variations always starts with All sections and no reference.
For runs without a fixed draft, choose whether to require a CTA. If a CTA is optional, Sovran can include one when it fits.
Review the results
The latest run with drafts opens first. Run headers show the result count, time, and status. Open Run settings or Run notes and skipped matches for more information.
Select a draft to preview its video and read its original hook, body, and CTA. Use Compare original scripts to compare another draft from the same run. Same and Changed labels mark each section. Comparison loads text while one video stays active. For drafts saved in the editor, the text shows the original generation and the video shows the loaded save. Open the draft in the editor to make changes before rendering.
Sovran checks up to 200 proposed combinations. Scores measure script flow. They do not predict ad performance. A run can return fewer drafts than requested, or none if the footage cannot form a complete script. Read the source review notes for specific quality or timing issues. Follow the source link to inspect the affected footage. Lowering the minimum duration does not repair a timing conflict or restore a missing script part.
Draft creation does not start a final render. See Rendering Ad Variations for export guidance.
Continue a run
Progress and saved drafts remain available after a page reload. Active runs continue automatically. If automatic continuation stops, Retry appears. Select it to request another continuation attempt. Select Cancel to stop an active run for all project members.
If a run fails, its saved drafts remain available. Select Create a new run to copy its settings and try again. A failed run cannot resume.
Copy a run's settings
Select Copy settings in a run. Sovran opens New variations with that run's filters, count, duration, aspect ratio, selection preference, test type, reference, captions, and animated emphasis settings. This does not start generation.
Check the current ready sources. The page warns when earlier sources no longer match or are unavailable. It also checks the saved reference, including references from older history. Change missing references before creating a run. Adjust settings on an empty result uses the same copy behavior.
To check combinations in a sequence you build yourself, use Smart Combo Mode.
Delete unwanted drafts
Open a draft's actions menu and select Delete draft. To remove several drafts, select them and use Delete selected. Use Delete batch in a batch's actions menu to remove the batch.
Check the draft and review counts before you confirm. Deletion is permanent and removes the selected drafts and their review history. Source files, saved voiceovers, and finished videos stay. Wait for draft creation or video rendering to finish before you delete.
